Following on from what I said last week. Leading a faith filled life can be very challenging. For one thing you don’t know what is around the corner, you cant know it is impossible for us to know what lies around the corner. God however knows everything and will guide you through life and show you which path to tread.

A man must walk his path alone, Sometimes People come and go but it is the personal relationship that we build up with God our father over time that counts. It is a personal journey that unfolds like a map over time and becomes a personal relationship that grows like father & son. Warning, God can show us the paths like signposts along the way but we must choose which route to take. Mans free will means he will never intervene.

If you have read my story you will know of the trials and tribulations I have had to endeavour to overcome. When I was lying in a hospital bed not knowing if I was going to live or die. One thought entered my mind and put my mind at rest. I was walking on an empty beach no one was around there was but one set of footprints in the sand. It was a image dragged up from over 20 years earlier of a Christian poster that I had on my bedroom wall in the 80`s. Why did it put my mind to rest because the words that accompanied the poster were as follows During the times of trial & suffering when you only see one set of footprints it was then that I carried you. I realised that The Lord was protecting over me.

That was something precious. To share with others not to chuck down their throats, not to be preached down to or in bashing people over the head with, but a message of love given by God. And another pearl of wisdom collected over a lifetime of personal journeys If having others believe in you and your dream was a requirement for success, most of us would never accomplish anything.

You need to base your decisions about what you want to do based on your dreams and your goals – not the goals, desires, opinions and judgments of your parents, friends, spouse, children and colleagues. Stop worrying about what other people think, and follow your heart.

Remember Dr. Daniel Amen’s 18/40/60 rule : “When you’re 18, you worry about what everybody’s thinking about you; when you’re 40, you don’t care about what anybody thinks about you; and when you’re 60, you realise that nobody’s been think about you at all.”

So there you are !. Most of the time, nobody’s think about you at all ! They’re too busy thinking about their own lives. And if they are thinking about you, it’s only to wonder what you’re thinking about them. People think about themselves, not about you.

Think about it. All the time you waste worrying what other people are thinking about you, your ideas, your goals, your clothes, your hair – all that time could be far better spent thinking about and doing the things that will achieve your goals- anxiety. Conversely, taking steps to raise your self-belief can make you less anxious and have a significant and positive effect on the way you handle stressful situations.

You have to believe in yourself. Whether you call it self-esteem, self-confidence, or self-assurance, it’s a deep-seated belief that you have what it takes – the abilities, inner resources, talents and skills to handle whatever life throws at you, and create the results that you desire.Andy Phillips Read my story

Happy people spend a lot of time socializing, going to church and reading newspapers — but they don’t spend a lot of time watching television, a new study finds.

That’s what unhappy people do.

Although people who describe themselves as happy enjoy watching television, it turns out to be the single activity they engage in less often than unhappy people, said John Robinson, a professor of sociology at the University of Maryland and the author of the study, which appeared in the journal Social Indicators Research.

While most large studies on happiness have focused on the demographic characteristics of happy people — factors like age and marital status — Dr. Robinson and his colleagues tried to identify what activities happy people engage in. The study relied primarily on the responses of 45,000 Americans collected over 35 years by the University of Chicago’s General Social Survey, and on published “time diary” studies recording the daily activities of participants.

“We looked at 8 to 10 activities that happy people engage in, and for each one, the people who did the activities more — visiting others, going to church, all those things — were more happy,” Dr. Robinson said. “TV was the one activity that showed a negative relationship. Unhappy people did it more, and happy people did it less.”

But the researchers could not tell whether unhappy people watch more television or whether being glued to the set is what makes people unhappy. “I don’t know that turning off the TV will make you more happy,” Dr. Robinson Still, he said, the data show that people who spend the most time watching television are least happy in the long run.

Since the major predictor of how much time is spent watching television is whether someone works or not, Dr. Robinson added, it’s possible that rising unemployment will lead to more TV time. – New York times

As the disease progressed, she became wheelchair bound and unable to easily communicate (I’m not sure of the disease — it may have been a combination, including Parkinson’s).When she was in her late 20′s, she would often have her mother take her out into the front yard when the weather was nice so that she could sit in her wheelchair and watch the cars pass by. One day, my aunt was doing dishes and looked out the window to see a car pulled to the side of the road.” What happened next was a brief and beautiful exchange that the author of this real-life story would never forget. [ more ]

Mr. Chippendale’s doctors told him that his only chance of survival was a bone marrow transplant, and that the likelihood of finding a matching donor seemed bleak. More than 5,000 miles and a world away, Klaus Kaiser, a simple man who repairs bicycles in the German village where he was born, had unsuccessfully tried to be a marrow donor for a friend with a blood disorder. Each year Mr. Kaiser received a form asking if he wanted to continue being listed on the donor registry. And each year he checked the box marked “yes.” On paper at least, or more accurately on sophisticated medical computer screens, Mr. Kaiser’s marrow seemed a perfect match for Mr. Chippendale… this New York Times article shares more of their moving story. [ more ] Submitted by: Avantika

“When we come up against our mountains, the obstacles of life, Mark 11 say that we can speak to them and they’ll evaporate! imagine reaching the place where you can speak to things and they “move”? This time, it was a training session, because I’d joined the same club the hitter played for. To me, it made no difference that he was now a teammate I had to have my pound of flesh, I thought it was my due.

Before the stroke I was very tolerant of others and took everything on the chin. Since the stroke I have become very grumpy to an extent that it has become a family joke, I loose my rag quite easily I can be very verbal but never physical I suffer from great anger and frustration that has ruined my private life and made my marriage almost intolerable, combine this with wanting a caring, loving Christian life, to do good and be successful at everything I do. you can see my dilemma. My frustration was eating up my soul and has been tearing me apart. Within the hour I was reading my Bible, searching for confirmation when I came across Matthew chapter 5 verse 43-48

Love all People

You have heard that it is said, Love your neighbour and hate your enemies, but I say to you Love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. If you do this, you will be true children of your father in heaven, He causes the sun to rise on good people and on evil people, and he sends rain to those who do right and to those who do wrong. If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that. And if you are only nice to your friends, you are no better than other people. Even those who dont know God are nice to their friends. So you must be perfect as your father in heaven is perfect.

God was telling me that if I want the things that I desire and pray for I will receive them in abundance, but first I have to break free of the shackles that are holding me back. I must forgive those around me even if they do me wrong, I must put right the feelings of anger and frustration Most of my problems was caused by the stroke. Feelings that have festered unchecked for so long and is now holding me back. Only when I learn to let go of these feelings can I expect to receive the great blessings that I seek.

It is hard enough for a disabled person to change careers let alone find a suitable job. He set out on his latest voyage from Gun wharf Quays, Portsmouth, on Saturday morning. He will be alone at sea for over four months and his only contact with family will be through satellite link-ups. Michael said: “I’m a little bit nervous but otherwise really, really excited. “It’s just the feeling of being completely in control, relaxed and at one with nature. It’s just fantastic. But you don’t look forward to the fact you are alone for about four months.” Psychologists have helped prepare him mentally for the challenges ahead and he said his experience crossing the Atlantic would also stand him in good stead. Money raised from the epic voyage will be donated to Save the Children and the Tall Ships Youth Trust.
ANDYS… THE LISTENING SERVICE. Is a faith-based initiative although it is not owned or run by any particular religion, church, group or organisation? It was decided right from the beginning that counselling offered on the web site should be freely available to anyone & everyone, At source. Which would make it both affordable for all and be completely open and above board. We are basically a non-profit making company. That is why we do not ask for gifts or donations although these are always gratefully received. There is always a need for funding.

Especially when we have so many other projects and initiatives that we want to put in place. Our future plans include: Making the website a stand alone Url not connected with word press as present, same goes with the message board. Which we would prefer to be advert free, We would like to fully promote the site, which costs money. We would also like to introduce a dedicated telephone help line and be able to train up volunteer counsellors to work on the web site.

Therefore we have decided to create a stream of revenue through business promotion and sponsorship based on one small advert, which will appear on every weekly journal, and newsletter delivered to members. We have a ever increasing number of visitors (hits on the web site) With the words Sponsored & supported by So and so Ideally this should be a company with vision as well as a social conscience. The sponsors would have no editorial rights. And the ownership of Andy’s will always remain independent. (See example below) If anybody is interestedand want to have in informative chat please e-mail me on andypaulphillips@yahoo.co.uk

Coach Roz and his dedicated team of coaches are showing the boys not only what it means to be a real man, they are teaching them what a husband and father should be like so they can adopt those roles with integrity when their time comes.

Grades and attendance at the high school where Coach Roz began this program were so bad that even with a 2.0 requirement for sports, the school had to shut down the JV program. The kids just couldn’t qualify. Then along came Coach Roz. Immediately he raised the grade requirement to 2.5 and opened the Bulldog program (early morning tutoring sessions) so the kids could succeed. To everyone’s amazement and delight, the kids came.

Now the program embraces schools in surrounding communities, thus forming a network that has spread across the valley and throughout the state. But Playmakers doesn’t stop there. Playmakers holds free three-day football camps throughout the State of California for kids who otherwise would never have the opportunity to participate in special sports events. And the word is getting out. Calls are coming in from around the country from people who want to bring this much-needed outreach to their communities as well.

Here are just a few of the keys that make this program work:

Playmakers provides mentoring as well as middle and high school football camps. Currently they are serving over 1,000 kids, more than 50 coaches, and countless single parents.
Coach Roz holds Coaching for Character Clinics for coaches so they, too, will know how to teach character both on and off the field.
Youth from surrounding schools are welcomed into Playmakers, thus creating a state-wide network for at-risk kids.
To be a Playmaker, students must agree to participate in community service. Already, the results are dramatic. As these at-risk kids learn to work with others and contribute to their community, their growing self-esteem and positive attitudes touch every area of their lives. Kids who have not been able to get along are learning to work together and respect each other.
Because the program has made such a positive impact on the students, the high school where Coach Roz teaches now requires anyone who “gets in trouble” to become part of the “football family” in order to be reinstated in the school.
Coach Roz tells us that kids never came into the school’s weight room before, but they are coming now, and not just once in a while, but regularly.
Students who participate in the Bulldog program receive backpacks emblazoned with the logo, “Student Athlete.” The backpacks have quickly become a source of pride among the participants, and a magnet for those not yet in the program.
Coach Roz and his staff love all these kids as if they were their own, and the kids know it. These are boys who have either one or no parents, who live in the streets, sleep in garages and worse, but they will do anything for their coaches because the coaches honestly believe in them.
Everyone who is part of this program gets to play in every game. Even though many coaches only play their “best” players to give their team the best chance of winning, Coach Roz is more interested in affecting lives than affecting the score of a game. While he also would like for his team to win, he is teaching them and showing them that to be a real winner, all you have to do is give your best.
Playmakers has developed a mentoring chain of responsibility. It begins by assigning adult mentors to students who would benefit from this kind of support. But the program doesn’t stop there. Students who show responsibility are taught how to mentor children younger than they are, and then they are given a child to watch over and guide. Thus the young child answers to his student mentor, and the student mentor answers to his adult mentor. The mentoring chain is proving to be a powerful and effective way to teach kids how to care for themselves and others.
By changing the lives of these young men, Playmakers is changing future generations as well. Through Playmakers and their football camps, coaches are able to connect with the boys and then follow them back into their lives, where they act as role models both on and off the field. Truly, this is a noble work that not only is creating a better day for today’s young men, it is bringing promise for their future as well.

Moving forward at quite a pace I can report that The 2nd Chance Project (the outreach unit) Is quickly coming to fruition. We are currently creating the infrastructure that will eventually become the carcus & skeleton of the project ready to apply for initial grant funding. The project which is slowly taking shape & that will eventually become The 2nd Chance I would encourage all readers to get involved with this project either through words of encouragment to remembering us in your prayers to to giving both on a personal as well as economic basis. I thank you all for supporting this endevour. The next Phase is to create a working party of volunteers able to steer the project in the right direction.

Good News of the week:‘Submitted by: Birju Pandya

A severely handicapped little girl who cannot walk or talk has used a machine to tell her mother for the first time: ‘I love you.’

Six-year-old Elke Wisbey, who was born brain-damaged, has been able to communicate with her family by using a high-tech gadget which tracks her eye movements.

The £17,000 MyTobii Smartbox machine from Sweden detects which icons Elke is looking at by using tiny lasers.

When her eyes settle on an icon on the screen of the Smartbox, a pre-programmed voice speaks the word or phrase for her.

Just a few days after setting up the equipment, Elke’s parents, Glynnis and Matt Wisbey, described how their daughter started using her eyes to repeat the words ‘I love you’ over and over again.

Mrs. Wisbey, 43, who also has a son, Galahad, aged nine, said: ‘I thought it was stuck and then I realised what she was saying.

‘She was looking at the “I love you” icon and I couldn’t believe it, she kept doing it.

‘I said to Elke “are you telling Daddy you love him?” and she pointed at the icon “yes”.

‘It really choked me up, made me really emotional. I’m still emotional when I think about it.

‘It was quite emotional. It is mind-blowing really. We have gone from somebody not being able to communicate to this.

‘We didn’t think Elke would ever be able to tell us how she was feeling, and now she can. This will be amazing for us, absolutely phenomenal.’

Readers of a local newspaper raised money to buy the specially-adapted machine for the family from Bearsted, Kent.

The Wisbey family are all learning how to help Elke use the machine, but the little girl, who will never be able to walk or talk for herself or feed herself, has mastered it more quickly than any of them.

She has already got to grips with a number of words and phrases and can also play games and browse the internet with it.

Mrs Wisbey said: ‘Elke is an absolute delight to know. She smiles when she recognises people and places and she showers hugs on those she likes best.

‘It’s going to change our lives completely. We’ve been overwhelmed by people’s support, it takes some people years to raise this kind of money and we’ve done it in a summer.

Tuesdays Quote: Refuse to be ill. Never tell people you are ill; never own it to yourself. Illness is one of those things which a man should resist on principle at the onset. Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton

Wednesdays Quote: You can’t climb up to the second floor without a ladder. When you set your aim too high and don’t fulfill it, then your enthusiasm turns to bitterness. Try for a goal that’s reasonable, and then gradually raise it. That’s the only way to get to the top. Emil Zatopek

Thursdays Quote: Your enthusiasm will be infectious, stimulating and attractive to others. They will love you for it. They will go for you and with you.” Norman Vincent Peale
